We are pleased to confirm the 2 integrated care systems where we will be piloting our new assessments later this summer.
They are:
- Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System
- Dorset Integrated Care System
We would like to thank both for agreeing to take part.
The pilot assessments follow on from last year’s ‘test and learn’ activities across 2 integrated care systems – North East London and South Yorkshire. This enabled us to test elements of our assessment approach.
We will use our single assessment framework during the pilot assessments, as outlined in our interim guidance. Our assessments will be based on evidence gathered under 6 categories:
- People’s experience of health and care services
- Feedback from staff and leaders
- Feedback from partners
- Observation
- Processes
- Outcomes
We will also be carrying out case tracking as part of the pilots. This involves retrospectively looking at the pathway of care for a small number of people to gather evidence for the assessment.
For each integrated care system in the pilot, we will provide a report of the findings from the assessment. We are currently awaiting confirmation from the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care about including ratings for the pilot assessments.
We will incorporate any learning into our formal assessments, which will start in 2024.
As well as the pilot assessments, we are carrying out a separate review of data and published documentary evidence across all 42 integrated care systems in England. This will focus on the ‘equity in access’ quality statement.
This aims to show whether systems are working together to support people to access the care, support, and treatment they need when they need it. Our findings will be published in our annual 'State of Care' publication this autumn.
To understand how care in a local area is improving outcomes for people, we are also currently piloting our approach to assessing the following local authorities:
- Birmingham City Council
- Lincolnshire County Council
- North Lincolnshire Council
- Nottingham City Council
- Suffolk County Council
