Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 3 March 2025. The service is a residential care home providing support to older people including those living with dementia and can accommodate 41 people. Twenty-nine people were being supported at the time of the inspection.

This inspection was prompted due to the amount of time that had elapsed since the last inspection.

The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations in relation to the need for consent, safe care and treatment and good governance. Improvements were found at this inspection and the provider was no longer in breach of regulation.

We assessed a total of 22 quality statements from the safe, effective, and well-led key questions. The overall rating is good.

Since the last inspection, there had been a change in manager. Although the new manager was due to start, a management team were based at the home to provide oversight and governance. The management team had worked hard to act on the shortfalls in practice found at the last inspection, and to drive up improvements in the safety and quality of care being provided.

The service was hygienic and well maintained, improvements to the environment had been made, such as the installation of new kitchenettes and flooring. Although some further adaptations were required to enhance the environment for those people living with dementia (for example, communal corridors), the provider had already identified this and there was a plan in place to resolve.

Any safety incidents were investigated thoroughly. People were protected from the risk of harm and kept safe. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.

The provider instilled and practiced a culture where people were encouraged to provide their feedback. The provider worked in partnership with any relevant external partners and agencies to ensure people had access to services.

People's experience of this service

Feedback from people and their relatives about the care and support received at Hurst Park Court was positive.

People told us they felt safe living at the home and were cared for by staff who were familiar to them and knew their needs well. People’s relatives were keen to tells us how well looked after their loved one was.

During the inspection, we observed staff supporting and caring for people in a safe and compassionate way. People were supported in such a way which aligned to the person-centred information recorded in their care plans.
