Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 1 August 2024

Date of assessment 12 – 23 September 2024. We carried out an unannounced visit to the service on 17 September 2024. The assessment took place because we had received concerns about safety of care and treatment provided to people using the service. During the assessment, we found the provider had made improvements to the service and learnt from things that had gone wrong. We found people received good quality care, they were safe, and their needs were met. St Vincent's Nursing Home is a care home with nursing for up to 62 older people. At the time of our assessment, 59 people were living at the service. The service was well-led, and leaders worked with external partners to review and improve the service. The rating at the last inspection was good (published 23 February 2022). Following this assessment, the service has remained good. We did not assess all quality statements. We did not identify concerns relating to these areas which we judged as being met at our last inspection.

People's experience of the service

Updated 1 August 2024

We met with 13 people who lived at the service and 5 visiting relatives. We also spoke with the staff on duty, who included the registered manager, clinical lead, nurses, healthcare assistants and activity staff. We received written feedback from an external professional who worked closely with the service. We observed how people were being cared for and supported. Our observations included the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. The -assessment team included 5 inspectors, a member of the CQC medicines team and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. People told us they felt safe and well looked after. They said there were enough staff. They felt their needs were well met and staff were suitably trained. People took part in a range of activities. People's health care needs were met, and they were able to make choices about their care and support. We saw staff were kind, respectful and knew people well.
