Date of assessment; 23 September to 12 December 2024. This assessment was carried out in response to information we had received about the service. Old Alresford Cottage is a care home without nursing for up to 44 people. At the time of our assessment 38 people were using the service. We assessed 19 quality statements from the safe, caring, responsive and well led key questions. We have combined the scores for these areas with scores from the last inspection to give the rating for this assessment. We found 2 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and governance. The service continued to have an inconsistent approach to risk management. The service did not always assess risks to people's health and safety, or always mitigate them where identified. People did not always have care plans to guide safe practice. The service did not always ensure learning from safety related events was effective. Governance arrangements were in place, but these were still not always operated effectively to monitor and improve the quality of the service. However, some improvements had been made since our last inspection. The service had made improvements to the environment and improved the safety of the premises. People were supported by staff who knew them well. The service made sure there was continuity of care, including when people moved between different services. People were treated with kindness and respect and staff respected people’s privacy and dignity. The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and staff mostly told us they felt supported and enjoyed their roles. The provider was responsive and taking action to address shortfalls. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
