We completed an assessment visit to Ellesmere House on the 4th of February. Ellesmere House is a care home for up to 28 people. At the time of our visit 15 people were living there. The home supports older and younger adults including people with physical disabilities, mental health and people living with dementia. During this assessment we looked at the key questions of Safe and Well Led. For those key questions we did not inspect, we used the ratings awarded at the last inspection to calculate the overall rating.
We found that the home had a positive culture of learning from when things went wrong. The home ensured people had safe transitions to the home. People were protected from the risk of abuse and their legal rights to make choices were respected. People were involved in managing risks to their safety. The environment required improvements to ensure effective infection control. Improvements were required to recruitment processes. Improvements were required to the administration of medicines.
The home had a positive shared direction and culture. There was a registered manager and a strong management team. Staff and people living at the home were given the opportunity to speak up. Staff were treated with equality. Improvements were required with the homes governance systems to ensure shortfalls of safe care delivery and treatment were identified and addressed.
