Date of Assessment: 16 to 20 January 2025. The service is a residential home providing support to older people living with dementia. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers mostly investigated incidents thoroughly, however it was not always clear what action had been taken. We have since been updated that this has been addressed. People were protected and kept safe from abuse. Staff understood and managed risks. The facilities and equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.
Where people were subject to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. The manager was knowledgeable regarding expiration dates and reviews, however these were not recorded anywhere. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. People always had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. The service monitored people’s health to support healthy living.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff wellbeing.
People were involved in decisions about their care. The provider provided information to people in a way they could understand. People received fair and equal care and treatment. People were involved in planning for their future.
Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on trust, faith and care. Governance systems had improved, however there was still some gaps in recording, which we highlighted to the manager at the time of our inspection. They have since provided assurances this has been addressed. Managers worked with the local community to deliver the best possible care.

People were extremely positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and well cared for. They said, “Yes I feel very safe here. I can speak to any of the staff if I had a problem. They ask me if I want things doing, they are very respectful.” Also “The staff help me to do things that I struggle with like walking. I like my room and have what I need. The home is very clean and there are no smells. I was a nurse and you notice these things.” “They treat us with the utmost respect [the staff]. There seems to be enough staff as far as I can tell. They are always busy, but you ring the buzzer and they are there!” and “The place is spotless, they have good cleaners and everyone is so nice.” A relative said “It’s very clear that the staff love the residents. They are extremely kind and polite to mum and to me.”
A relative also told us “Oh my goodness, they couldn’t be more caring. They do such lovely things with the residents. They do amazing crafts like decorating pictures with paper and making hats.”
One person told us “[Staff member] is so good doing things with us. Today we’re all doing our own jigsaw, some are easy, and some are not, but she helps us. We have singers and we have her dog come in, I love dogs. My dog was my life and I love the dog coming in.” Also “There is a Church preacher here today and I will like listening to him, my faith is very important and I can pursue that here.” Another person said “This is a Christian Fellowship Home. People are supported to follow that faith.” A relative said “They have great activities. They had Edinburgh Wool Mill giving a fashion show here and the staff were some of the models.”
A relative told us “I believe that this home is well led and that the managers are responsive to mums needs.” A person who lived at the home said “[The manager] comes round to see us. She is the boss, but she makes sure that the staff do what we need."
