Updated 6 January 2025
Date of Assessment: 14 January to 21 January 2025. The service is a residential care at home service providing support to older people living with dementia, mental health conditions and physical disabilities.
The service had made some improvements since our last assessment, however further improvements were still needed. We found 1 breach of legal regulation in relation to governance. People were not always kept safe from avoidable harm with unsecured furniture and radiator covers which presented a risk of injury and burns. Not all areas of the service were maintained to promote effective infection prevention and control practices, which had not been identified through the service’s governance systems. The provider had quality systems and processes in place, however these were ineffective in identifying the concerns we found during this assessment. There were enough trained staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular supervisions and appraisals. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes. People were involved in assessments of their needs which included people’s communication, personal and health needs. Care was based on latest evidence and good practice. People were provided with information they could understand. People had enough to eat and drink and were given choices and were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected people’s privacy although maintaining people’s dignity required some further improvements. People knew how to give feedback and were confident the provider took it seriously and acted on it. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. We asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
