Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 15 January to 31 January 2025. The service is a residential service for 2 people, providing support to younger and older adults living with learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorder, mental health conditions and sensory impairment. At the time of the inspection 2 people lived at the service. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At our last inspection the service needed to make improvements in staffing levels, medicines competency assessments, risk management and governance. At this inspection the service had made improvements. People were now supported by sufficient staff who received training and competency assessments in line with best practice guidance, and managers now made sure risks were identified and assessed. Quality monitoring systems were now improved but needed further development to make sure they always led to improvements where needed. At this inspection we also found improvements were needed to ensure decision specific mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions were in place. People were protected and kept safe and were involved in everyday decisions about their care. Staff managed medicines well. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. People were treated with kindness and compassion. The service provided information people could understand. Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible and staff felt supported by them.

People's experience of this service

People and relatives were happy with the care their loved ones received. One person communicated to us that the home was good. Relatives told us, “We are very happy, they do a marvellous job” and “I am quite happy, they are good with [relative].” People received care from staff who treated them as individuals. We observed interactions between people and staff where people appeared to be in control of their day and relaxed. One person communicated the staff were “good”. Relatives told us, “I like them ” and “All the staff we have met are patient and good with [relative], they are angels.” Throughout our visits we observed staff to be kind, caring and supported people to be as independent as possible. Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used observation to assess their experiences of care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them. Staff supported people to take positive risks to enable their independence and empowered them to make their own choices using their preferred method of communication. We observed staff communicating with people in their preferred way. People were supported by staff to take part in and enjoy activities and hobbies within the local community. One person showed us their activity board, communicating the different places they go. This included seeing family, horse riding and swimming.
