Updated 27 January 2025
This assessment began on 24 February 2025 and was concluded 11 March 2025. Brookfield Residential Care Home provides accommodation and support to up to 14 people living with a mental health condition. At the time of our visit there were 13 people living at the home.
The inspection was prompted in part due to information of concerns received about staffing arrangements and support provided. This inspection examined those concerns.
We looked at all the quality statements. The registered manager had recently resigned from their post. A new manager appointment had been made, and an application was being made to register with CQC. The provider and manager had a good working relationship and were working together to identify and implement further areas for improvement and learning. This was acknowledged by both staff and people living at Brookfield.
Care plans and risk assessments were not sufficiently detailed to guide and support staff. A review of records had commenced immediately following our visit and information was to be expanded upon to ensure effective management of risks. People’s prescribed medicines were managed safely. Staff continued to work with relevant agencies and supported people in meeting their healthcare needs.
Staff spoke positively about working at the home. A more robust electronic recruitment system was to be implemented, allowing better monitoring of pre-employment checks. The team remained stable with only 1 new staff appointment in a number of years. A programme of staff training and support was in place. The provider recognised supervision sessions needed to evidence more meaningful discussions with staff and further updates in training were planned to enhance staff knowledge and skills in mental health, consent and capacity, safeguarding and medication.
Servicing and safety checks of the home and equipment had been completed. Considerable work had been completed to enhance the standard of accommodation.
