Updated 17 January 2025
Date of assessment: 29 January to 5 February 2025. Woodrow Retirement Home is a residential care home for up to 19 people. The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, recruitment and governance. Not enough improvements were found at this assessment and the provider remained in breach of these regulations. The provider was also previously in breach of legal regulation in relation to consent. Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation. Whilst improvements had been made to the governance of the service since our last inspection, we found areas of improvement were still required. The provider did not always detect or control environmental risks and staff were not always recruited safely. Staff did not always identify potential risks to people’s safety, because staff had not completed regular training and were not always aware of current guidance or good practice. Since our last inspection, improvements had been made to medicines administration and storage. People’s administration records contained clear, accurate information and were well completed. People had risk assessments in place that were regularly reviewed, and some people’s care plans contained good information about how staff could support them to manage specific risks. Infection control was well managed, and we saw both communal areas and people’s own bedrooms were clean, tidy and fresh. The provider worked well across teams and services to support people. Staff worked within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. People were treated as individuals and care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded.
