Safe and effective staffing
At the assessment on 26 February 2025 we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulation: The practice had a recruitment policy and procedures that reflected relevant legislation, to help them employ suitable staff, including agency or locum staff. We reviewed 4 staff files during our assessment on 26 February. We also re-reviewed 8 other staff files that we had previously reviewed on 12 November 2024. All files now contained all required information in line with Schedule 3 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. This included Disclosure and Barring Service checks for each staff member and Hepatitis B vaccination status and effectiveness for all clinical members of staff.
The practice ensured clinical staff were qualified, registered with the General Dental Council and had appropriate professional indemnity cover. Newly appointed staff had an appropriate role specific structured induction. The practice had arrangements to ensure staff training, including continuing professional development, was up-to-date and reviewed at the required intervals. At our assessment on 26 February 2025, evidence was seen to show that every member of staff had completed safeguarding training, at the correct level for their role and all staff had completed fire safety awareness training. There were effective processes to support and develop staff with additional roles and responsibilities. Staff discussed their learning needs, general well-being and aims for future professional development during annual appraisals, 1-to-1 meetings, during clinical supervision, practice team meetings and ongoing informal discussions.
