Our view of the service

Date of assessment 21 January to 4 February 2025. Knowles Court provides accommodation for people who require nursing or personal care, this includes supporting people living with dementia. The service can accommodate up to 146 people. 67 people were living at Knowles Court within 3 separate bungalows, 2 further bungalows were empty at the time of our inspection. This inspection consisted of all quality statements under the key questions Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well led. This inspection was prompted by concerns raised by stakeholders. During this inspection we found action had been taken to address many of the concerns raised with us. People were protected against harm and supported safely by a dedicated staff team. Staff understood and managed risk appropriately. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. The manager and staff team worked effectively in partnership with other health professionals and followed their recommendations. The management and staff team were responsive to people’s changing needs and made referrals appropriately to health care professionals when needed. Staff treated people kindly and gained consent before supporting people. The provider’s culture encouraged people and staff to feedback on the care provided and speak up about concerns. We saw regular recreational engagement and social activities were available to people. Staff felt supported and were treated fairly by the management team. However, we raised concerns over support plan documentation not always being up to date or consistent; evidence of how people were encouraged to make choices was not clearly documented and end of life plans were not always in place or clear regarding people’s wishes. The provider was responsive to our feedback and shared plans evidencing action taken and planned.

They all help me, it’s good here. I can’t do that much these days. They know me” and “I stay in my bed most of the time. I am comfortable and look, I have everything in need just here. My door is open, and I can see them all and here them all. They come if I need them. They just come in and see me as they walk past, they are good and do their best. I feel safe here.”
