Shire House Care Home provides residential care to up to 22 people. There were 21 people using the service when we assessed, most of whom were living with dementia.
The provider informed us they had received an enforcement notice from Dorset and Somerset fire and Rescue Service following a recent review. We brought forward their inspection to assess the safe and well-led aspects of the service to ensure all other health and safety areas were being managed appropriately.
The service was safe, care delivery was safe and with the exception of fire safety, the premises were safe. All concerns raised in the fire enforcement notice had either been addressed or were being upgraded in the weeks following our assessment. We were assured of the providers actions following the notice.
People received medicines as prescribed, and staff supported them to access healthcare. The premises were very clean and there were no malodours.
Staff were supported well by leaders and both the registered manager and the nominated individual spent time with people and staff to ensure they had oversight of the service. The nominated individual is responsible for supervising the management of the service on behalf of the provider.
The provider had formed positive relationships with local health and social care professionals.
