Cedar Court Nursing Home (Dementia Unit)

Date of Assessment: 16 January to 24 January 2025. Cedar Court Nursing Home (Dementia Unit) is a care home providing nursing and personal care for up to 45 people living with dementia. At the time of the inspection 37 people were living at the home. The home is in a rural location with enclosed accessible gardens. Care is divided across 2 floors and there are several communal lounges for people to spend time in. This assessment was carried out to check if the breach of Regulation 17 HSCA RA Regulations 2014 Good governance identified at the last inspection had been met. The assessment therefore looked at the safe and well led questions. We saw improvements had been made and the service was no longer in breach of Regulation 17 HSCA RA Regulations 2014 Good governance. Since our last assessment there had been changes in the management team. A new registered manager was in post. We found that the care provided was safe and delivered by staff who knew people well. People were happy with the care they received. Policies and procedures were in place to support good practice.

People and those important to them were positive about the quality of care. We reviewed recent feedback from relatives who confirmed their loved one’s needs were met in a safe way and said they were kept informed of any changes. One person confirmed they were comfortable living at the home and that the staff supporting them were friendly and kind. We saw there was enough staff available to support people in a safe way. We saw the home was kept clean and infection, prevention and control practices were in place. We saw that ongoing monitoring of care practices and the environment were in place, to ensure areas for improvement were identified and action taken as needed. People using the service, their relatives and the staff team were confident in the management teams abilities to manage the home. They confirmed the registered manager and deputy manager had an open-door policy and were accessible to them and worked as part of the team to ensure care was delivered safely and in a timely manner.
