The assessment of Castleman House took place between 15 January and 24 January 2025. We visited the service on 17 January and 19 January 2025. This is the first assessment for this newly registered service therefore we inspected all quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Castleman House is registered to provide personal care and support for up to 48 people. At the time of assessment, the service was supporting 35 people, including people with a learning disability and people living with dementia. This assessment was prompted in part by concerns about people’s safe care and whether staffing levels met the needs of people using the service safely. We did not find any shortfalls relating to the level of staff. During this assessment we found concerns around the management of medicines, however the home manager and provider were transparent and responsive. These concerns were addressed by the end of our inspection. The service made sure there was continuity of care, including when people moved between different services. They worked well across teams and services to support people. People were supported with their rights around consent, and this was respected. People were treated with kindness, empathy and compassion and staff respected people’s privacy and dignity. The service promoted the wellbeing of their staff and they told us they enjoyed their roles. Leadership was visible within the service and they led by example. Staff told us they were valued and supported in their roles; the service had a culture of seeking continuous improvement to ensure people’s needs were met. The manager told us the service is, “on a journey of continuous improvement.” The service had been working closely with the local authority and partners to ensure best practice guidance was embedded into the processes at Castleman House.
