Our view of the service

IBC Healthcare is a supported living service for people with learning disabilities and autistic people. We assessed this service to check whether it was safe, effective, and well-led. Assessment activity started on 24 September 2024 and ended on 6 November 2024. We visited 6 people in their own homes, spoke with relatives and partners, and met with managers and staff. Following our assessment the service was rated good. We assessed this service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’. This is the guidance CQC uses to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people, and providers must have regard to it. IBC Healthcare followed this guidance. IBC Healthcare’s model of care maximised people’s choice, control, and independence. People thrived at the service, gaining new skills, and taking part in activities. They made decisions about all aspects of their lives and determined their own lifestyles and routines. Staff provided person-centred care and support that promoted people’s dignity, privacy, and human rights. Staff were extremely caring and respectful to the people they supported. They used positive behaviour support (PBS - a person-centred framework for supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people) to help them understand people’s behaviours so they could better meet their needs, enhance their quality of life, and reduce the likelihood of behaviours of concern. The service had a positive and open culture. Leaders, managers, and staff shared the same values and ensured people led inclusive and empowered lives. Leaders and managers listened to people, relatives, and staff, and made improvements to the service where necessary. The service complied with regulations and followed nationally recognised, evidence-based guidance to provide high-quality care and support to meet people’s needs.

People's experience of this service

We were not able to communicate with everybody using the service. However, we spent time with people in their own homes and observed their interactions with staff. People were relaxed and happy and chose to be around the staff who supported them. They trusted the staff and looked to them for guidance and support when they needed it. They were keen to show us their homes, favourite items, and activities. Staff were extremely proud of the people they supported and excited about their progress.
