Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first assessment for this service. Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

Staff treated people with kindness and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. The provider treated colleagues from other organisations with respect. People and those important to them spoke positively about the caring attitude of staff. Comments included, “Staff have a very good manner when they are talking to [person]. The care is very good overall” and “They talk to me. They are very understanding and they are very kind.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care and support met their needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths and abilities and considered their protected characteristics. People’s care plans contained information about their life history and what was important to them. People told us their regular staff understood how they liked to receive their care. One person’s relative said, “The beauty of regular carers is they get into a routine and know what they should be doing.”

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control. People told us they were able to make decisions about their care. For example, their preference for the gender of their care staff and the timing of their visits. People’s care plans documented the importance of maintaining and respecting their independence in their daily care tasks.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People and those important to them told us staff were quick to identify any changes or concerns in people’s health or wellbeing.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff. Staff told us they felt supported and valued. A monthly rewards scheme was in place to recognise and celebrate staff achievements.
