18 Argyle Road is a respite care home providing care to people with a learning disability and autistic people. The home can accommodate up to 4 people. At the time of this assessment, 1 person lived at the home and 9 people received respite care. This was the first assessment of the service since it was registered on 1 November 2022. We carried out this assessment to make sure the provider was meeting required standards. Assessment activity started on 7 January 2025 and ended on 16 January 2025. The manager in post was in the process of registering with the CQC as the registered manager for this service. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. Systems were in place to help protect people from the risk of harm. Risk assessments provided staff with guidance of how to help support people to be safe. Staff were recruited safely and trained appropriately to help ensure they were competent for their role. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives in the least restrictive way possible. Staff managed medicines safely. There were proactive strategies in place to help ensure people were not over-medicated by medicines. People were cared for and supported by a consistent team of staff who understood and respected people’s preferences. People were encouraged and supported to live a life of their choosing and to increase their independence and involvement within the community. Staff felt valued and supported working in the home. There was a culture of continuous improvement and governance systems were robust to help ensure people received a safe and good quality care and support. Management evaluated the quality of care in the home.
