People had consented to their care and support.
People told us they were treated with kindness. The culture of support offered to staff encourage high-quality care delivery for people. Staff recognised and acknowledged this connection.
There was a strong sense of shared direction and community across the whole service, with people, relatives and staff all having equal contributions. People's experience of the service

People and their relatives were all extremely happy with the care they received. All the people and relatives we spoke with were overwhelmingly positive about the service, the staff and the registered manager. People told us they felt safe and cared for. When asked about living at Kirkella Mansions people’s comments included, “Everyone is happy and friendly. My family is very pleased I’m here because they’re not worried, it is lovely”, “We sing every day”, “I’m so lucky to live here, all the [staff] are lovely, I’m so lucky” and “I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.” Other people commented about the activities they enjoyed, “They (staff) do lots of things with us, we don’t know what boredom is” and “We have great comradeship here. When I was at home all I did was stare at the four walls, and now I have all these friends and things to do.”
One relative told us about the improvements in their loved one, “From coming through the door everything and anything I ask staff they are just there. She is always well cared for, she has flourished.” Other relatives praised the staff, “Best bit is the staff, they are always smiling no matter what”, “I think they’re marvellous. Staff tell us everything”, and “Staff listen to me. They have offered [person’s husband] meals here if he wants”.
Observations and documentation supported these comments. There was a family atmosphere throughout the home. Without exception people told us they were happy and there was a strong sense of community and camaraderie.
