Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 19 November 2024

Date of Assessment: 28 November to 2 December 2024 This service is a residential care home providing support to older people, most of whom were living with dementia. People received safe care appropriate to their needs from staff who knew them well. The registered manager was working to improve the regular review of care records. Medicines were managed safely and people received their medicines as prescribed. Infection prevention and control measures were in place. People received person-centred care which met their assessed needs. People received kind, compassionate care from suitably trained staff. The service was responsive to people’s changing needs. The registered manager had spent the preceding 12 months setting up the service, recruiting staff and admitting people to live at the home. The service used a mixture of paper-based and electronic records. This meant some information was not always consistent. However, staff confirmed they had enough information to support people safely and knew people very well. The service planned to prioritise the full transition from paper-based records to electronic records. A staff member told us, “It’s full of smiles.”

People's experience of the service

Updated 19 November 2024

Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed us how people were supported and cared for by staff and enabled us to form a view of their experience of living at the home. We observed staff recognising people as individuals. Staff took every opportunity to speak with people and engage them in conversation. Staff recognised when people wanted to be quiet. We also spoke with relatives of people living in the service. Relatives told us they found the staff and management very supportive and approachable. They told us the home was welcoming and they were always offered refreshments when they visited. Relatives also said there was not a high turnover of staff, with most staff being regular since the service opened. Relatives spoke highly of the staff, managers and their experience of visiting the home. Comments included, “I think that [person] is very safe living there. [Person] has gained weight; they are contented and safe”, “[Person] has found friends living there at the home; they feel safe together”, “Straight away [person] bonded with staff, they (staff) know how to look after [person]. They know their likes and dislikes”, “[Person] loves all the attention they (staff) give them”, “[Person] has settled well. [Person] loves the activities, there is lots of them”, “[Person] has been in other care homes, this is the best” and “The care provided and the attitude of the staff is excellent. From the top down, the care is exceptional.”
