Our current view of the service

Updated 3 February 2025

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 04 February 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Dentalcare Bath is part of Dentalcare a dental group provider. The practice is in Bath, Somerset and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

The practice is located within a multi-storey building, on the ground, lower ground floors, first and second floor. The practice had 4 treatment rooms.

There was step-free access to the practice and a ground floor treatment room. Due to the restrictions of the building the patient toilet was only accessible via a flight of stairs.

At the time of our assessment, there were a total of 8 staff, which included 3 dentists, 3 dental nurses (1 qualified and 2 trainees), 1 dental hygienist and 1 receptionist. During our assessment we spoke to 1 dentist, 1 qualified dental nurse, 1 trainee dental nurse, 1 receptionist, the Group’s operations manager and the practice owner.

Staff feedback forms were shared with the team ahead of the assessment, giving staff an opportunity to confidentially share their views about the practice. We received 2 responses, which formed part of the assessment.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of regulation and are not covered in our assessment.

People's experience of the service

Two weeks before our on-site assessment, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback on the day of our visit from 9 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
