Safe and effective staffing

Regulations met

At the assessment on 3 October 2024, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulation: The practice had a recruitment policy and procedures that reflected relevant legislation, to help them employ suitable staff, including agency or locum staff. The recruitment policy now complied with the requirements within Schedule 3 of the regulation 19 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. The practice created a Disclose and Barring Service (DBS) tracker that included all DBS certificate dates and reference numbers to maintain oversight. The practice ensured clinical staff were qualified, registered with the General Dental Council and had appropriate professional indemnity cover. Newly appointed staff had a structured induction, which included safeguarding. The provider ensured clinical staff completed continuing professional development required for their registration with the General Dental Council. The practice had arrangements to ensure staff training was up-to-date and reviewed at the required intervals. There were also effective processes to support and develop staff with additional roles and responsibilities. However, the practice should take action to ensure that all clinical staff have adequate immunity for vaccine preventable infectious diseases. Hepatitis B titre levels (to indicate antibodies related to the virus) were not available for 2 members of the clinical staff on 3 October 2024.
