Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 19 December 2024

Parkfield House Nursing Home is a ‘care home’ for up to 44 older people. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. Parkfield House Nursing Home is a care home with nursing care. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. At the time of our assessment, 32 people were living at the service.

Date of assessment: 28 to 31 January 2025. We carried out an unannounced visit to the service on 28 January 2025 and reviewed additional information after this.

The assessment was carried out because of the length of time since our last rating. The last rating for this service was good (published 8 March 2019). During this assessment, we identified areas for improvement and the rating has now changed to requires improvement.

People were not always safely cared for. Risks to their safety and wellbeing had not always been assessed or managed. Medicines were not always managed in a safe way. Staff did not always treat people well or responded to their individual needs. Care plans and risk assessments were not personalised and did not always include enough information about people’s needs and choices. The provider’s systems and processes for monitoring and improving the quality of the service were not always effective. However, the provider took some action and developed a plan for improvements following our initial feedback during the assessment.

We identified breaches of 4 Regulations of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 in relation to person-centred care, dignity and respect, safe care and treatment and good governance at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 19 December 2024

People told us they were happy living at the service. Most people liked the staff and felt they had the care and support they needed. Some people told us they were lonely and would like more opportunities to take part in a wider range of suitable activities. Most people liked the staff and had good relationships with them. Most staff treated people with kindness and respect, however, we saw this was not always the case. In particular there were instances where some staff dismissed people’s feelings or did not provide personalised care.

While the people we spoke with expressed that they were generally happy with their care, our assessment found elements of care did not meet the expected standards. This meant people were sometimes placed at risk of inappropriate care and treatment.
