Our view of the service

Date of assessment 10 December 2024 to 12 December 2024. This assessment was in response to CQC receiving information of concern. Since our last assessment, the provider had not taken the necessary action needed to make improvements to the governance systems. We found 2 breaches of the legal regulations. Care plans and risk assessments were not always in place, up to date or reflective of the care people received. Due to this, we could not be assured all people’s Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards were accurate and up to date. People were also being restricted without the legal powers to do so. The lack of oversight in the home meant learning opportunities were missed. Systems to manage medicines were ineffective. Improvements were needed to ensure staff had guidance when people were prescribed ‘as required medicines’ and to ensure stock levels in the home were accurate. Areas of the home needed redecoration or improvement to ensure the environment was always safe and clean. The systems in place to monitor the quality of care in the home were either not in place or not effective. However, there were enough suitably recruited staff available to offer support to people when needed. Staff felt the home was a good place to work and felt supported and listened to. Staff were aware of safeguarding procedures, and these were followed when needed. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

People’s experience of living in the home was mixed. Some people felt they could be more involved with the service; infection control procedures could be better and risk management could be considered more. However, they were happy with how their medicines were administered, the staff that supported them, that the home worked in partnership with other agencies and the environment they lived in. People felt safe living in the home.
