Beechwood Residential Home

During an assessment under our new approach

Beechwood Residential Home is a care home providing accommodation and support with personal care to adults with learning disabilities. The service is registered to provide support to up to 6 people. At the time of our inspection 3 people were using the service. The provider was in breach of Regulation 12 of the Health and Social care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We found that the premises were not well maintained. They were in a poor state of décor throughout, and some maintenance issues potentially made the premises unsafe, thereby putting people at risk. The provider was in breach of Regulation 18 of the Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009. The provider had not always notified CQC of significant events as they are obliged to do by legislation. The service had a manager in place, although at the time of inspection they had not applied to register with CQC. Other than the premises, steps had been taken to promote people’s safety. For example there were sufficient staff to support people in a safe way and robust staff recruitment practices were followed. Risk assessments were in place for people. People’s needs were assessed, although the system for reviewing needs and risks was not clear. People were able to consent to their care and their independence choice and control was promoted. Care was provided in a person centred way.
