Crann Mor Nursing Home is a care home for up to 24 older people, including people living with dementia. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection.

The assessment started on 2 July 2024 and ended on 17 July 2024. We visited the service on 2 July 2024. During our site visit we spoke with the registered manager, the lead nurse, 4 care staff and the chef.

We checked standards of fire safety and infection prevention and control (IPC). We reviewed care records for four people, risk assessments, quality audits, medicines management, and records of staff recruitment, training and supervision.

We carried out this assessment in response to concerns about standards of fire safety raised by the Fire & Rescue Service and safeguarding concerns raised with the local authority by healthcare professionals.

We found the provider had taken action to improve standards of fire safety and worked with the local authority to investigate and address the concerns raised by healthcare professionals.

People's experience of the service

Updated 14 June 2024

We were not able to speak with people who lived at the home as they were isolating in their rooms at the time of our visit due to an outbreak of COVID-19. We spoke with 3 relatives of people living at the home to hear their views about the care provided to their family members.

Relatives told us there were always enough staff on duty to meet people’s needs and keep them safe. They said staff responded promptly when their family members needed care or support. Relatives told us the home had a consistent staff team, which meant their family members received good continuity of care.

Relatives said the registered manager and staff communicated well with them and kept them up to date about their family members’ health and welfare. Relatives told us they were able to contribute to the development of their family members’ care plans and to be involved in reviews of their care.
