Date of assessment: 10 to 11 February 2025. The service is a care at home service providing support to people living with a range of needs, including dementia and physical disabilities. People received safe care that met their needs. Staff were aware of their role in safeguarding adults from avoidable harm. They supported people to manage and mitigate any risks to their safety. Staff adhered to safe practices relating to infection prevention and control, and medicines management. Appropriate recruitment practices were in place to ensure suitable staff were employed. Staff were well supported in their role and completed regular training to ensure their knowledge and skills were up to date with best practice guidance. Staff worked with people to assess their care and support needs. This included identifying what was important to the person and how they preferred care to be delivered. Staff adhered to the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and respected people’s decisions and wishes. Staff were respectful of people’s individual differences and care was provided in a kind, caring and compassionate manner. People received care from a regular team of care workers who knew them well and who they were comfortable receiving care from. There was a supportive management team in place who were approachable. Staff, people and relatives felt comfortable speaking openly with the management team. A clear governance system was in place which regularly reviewed the quality and safety of care delivery. There was a commitment within the staff team to provide high quality person-centred meaningful care. The management team were open to feedback and this was used to inform service development.

People's experience of the service

People were happy with the care they received. People and relatives told us, “I think I’m lucky to have the care workers I do have…I’m very happy with my care workers. They are very good.” “[Care worker’s name] is our regular care worker. She is absolutely fabulous. She’s really clicked with [my relative]… As far as we’re concerned [care worker] is an absolute gem.” People and their relatives said their care workers treated them with respect, protected their dignity, enabled them to be as independent as possible and respected their choices and wishes.
