During an assessment under our new approach

The assessment began on 28th November and concluded on 4th December 2024. The Lakes Care Centre is a residential care home. The service is registered to provide accommodation for person’s who require personal care for up to 62 people across 2 units. The last assessment for the service took place between 22nd April 2024 and 8th May 2024. During this assessment we looked at 21 Quality statements. At this assessment we found improvements were needed and we identified breaches of regulations: staff did not always receive timely supervisions and appraisals and did not receive appropriate training to support their knowledge and skills, people’s medicines were not stored, managed and administered to people safely. Staff administering medicines to people lacked appropriate skills and knowledge. Risk assessments for people were not always in place or reviewed. There was a lack of provider’s oversight of people’s quality of care. Support delivered to people was not always measured and evaluated. The provider missed opportunities for identifying concerns we found during this assessment. People were not always treated as individuals and staff did not always understand people’s individual preferences or recognise these. Assessments of people’s needs were not always carried out. People’s care plans were not always person-centred. People’s individual needs and preferences were not always met. People were not always provided with information in a way they could understand it. People’s care needs were not always discussed with them prior to them moving in to the home.

During an assessment under our new approach

The assessment began on 22 April 2024 and ended on 8 May 2024. The Lakes Care Centre is a care home. It is registered to provide personal and nursing care for up to 62 people aged 65 and over, across 2 units. At the time of our inspection the service had made a decision to stop providing nursing care and no one with nursing needs was living at the service. At the time of our inspection there were 36 people using the service. The provider of this location has changed since we last visited this service and the newly registered provider of The Lakes Care Centre is The Lakes Care Centre Limited. We received concerns about the safety of people using this service and, as a result of this, a decision to assess the service was made. We reviewed all quality statements for the key questions of ‘Is the service safe?’, Is the service effective?’ and ‘Is the service well led? but did not look at quality statements in the key questions of ‘Is the service caring?’ and ‘Is the service responsive?’, and these key questions have therefore not been rated.
