Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The service had multiple reward measures to acknowledge staff performance. However, staff wellbeing was not always at the forefront and some staff did not feel supported or valued. Some staff were considering leaving both the service and their profession as a result of recent changes in the service. Staff did not always understand the reasons for some changes which had been made and continued to have a sense of perceived risk around changes to staffing number of shifts.
The service engaged with staff through surveys, but regular appraisals and supervision was not taking place, this meant learning needs or gaps in knowledge and skills were not being identified. However, on our follow up site visit we saw the annual appraisal window had opened and staff were beginning to receive emails inviting them to start their appraisal journey.
