During an assessment under our new approach

We undertook a follow-up on-site assessment on 20 March 2025. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.

We had previously undertaken an announced on-site assessment of J P Ward and Associates on 30 October 2024. We had found the registered provider was not providing well-led care and was in breach of regulation 17, good governance, of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

During our follow-up assessment, we found the practice had met regulations.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation.

Infection control procedures followed published guidance.

Effective systems for the governance and oversight of the service were established.

Audits of infection prevention and control and radiography were carried out in line with guidance.

Servicing of equipment, including all radiographic equipment was carried out.

There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

The practice is in Staveley in Derbyshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 5 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 3 dental nurses and the practice manager.

We identified scope for improvement in ensuring effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement were established at the service.

We identified scope for improvement in recording the completion of monitoring tasks associated with fire and legionella safety.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place.

The practice had systems to manage risks.

The practice is in Staveley in Derbyshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 5 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 3 dental nurses, and the practice manager.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke to said that they received care which met their needs and felt staff communicated with them well. They also said that they felt the practice was clean and that staff used personal protective equipment to ensure hygienic practice.
