Hamble Heights is a newly registered service. The new provider took over Hamble Heights in April 2024. There have been some concerns raised and some of these issues relate back to the previous provider. The current provider is working to address these issues.
Hamble Heights is a care home providing nursing and personal care to 38 people aged 65 and over at the time of the inspection. The service can support up to 60 people.
People’s care, treatment and support promoted equality, removed barriers or delays, and protected their rights.
People’s individual risks were identified, and risk assessment reviews were carried out to keep people safe. The service was working within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA).
There were enough competent staff deployed to meet peoples’ needs. However, some care staff told us they did not always feel there was enough time to chat with people and provide other activities. There were safe and effective recruitment processes in place.
The provider undertook regular health and safety checks of the premises to ensure people lived freely within a safe environment. Effective infection control measures were in place.
Medicines were safely managed on people’s behalf. There were some care plans which lacked relevant risk assessments for some medicines e.g. blood thinning medication.
Some staff felt the management team was not visible, did not lead by example and demonstrate inclusive behaviours. The provider was in the process of addressing these concerns. We found no evidence of this impacting on people.
We received mixed feedback from external health and social care professionals about how the service worked in partnership with them.
Governance, management, sustainability, and accountability arrangements were in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service.
There were processes to ensure that learning happened when things went wrong.
