During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 17 September 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. The Dental Centre is in Cuffley, Hertfordshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. The practice had a very small step into the practice and was accessible to wheelchair users. Car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the principal dentist and 2 associate dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist, and 1 receptionist.

During a routine inspection

We found that people had given their consent prior to treatment being given. People told us that they were provided with sufficient information which included costs, and were given time to think about their options. One person told us: "I came back because I felt confident and comfortable to carry on with this dentist.'

We found that care and treatment was planned and delivered in an individual way. We saw that treatment plans were developed with the person and assessed any risks associated with the treatment. One person told us: "The care is excellent, I would recommend [this dental practice] to friends and family without any concerns at all.'

The practice operated effective decontamination and infection control methods according to relevant guidance. One person who used the service said: "It is always clean and fresh here.'

Staff received appropriate support and development opportunities to carry out their role. One member of staff told us: 'It's such a small team that we just naturally help and support each other.'

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.
