During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced, on-site assessment on 13 March 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Alpha Dental Studio is part of Riverdale Tradeco Limited, a dental group provider. The practice is in Northallerton and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 9 treatment rooms. At the time of our assessment, there was a total of 40 staff, of which there were 12 dentists, 2 sedationists, 2 orthodontists, 12 dental nurses, 2 dental hygienists, 2 dental therapists, 5 receptionists, a treatment coordinator and 2 practice managers.

We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our assessment, including 3 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 dental therapist, 1 dental hygienist and the practice manager.

Staff feedback forms were shared with the team ahead of the assessment, giving staff an opportunity to confidentially share their views about the practice. We received 23 responses, which were considered as part of the assessment.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were always consulted about the options available to them and given information to help them make decisions about their treatment. People said that they were very happy with the care and treatment they received, and were treated well by the staff. Comments made to us by people who used the service included 'tells you what he's going to do before he starts', 'no qualms about the treatment I've had' and 'always helpful, never had any problems with them'. Treatment records showed that people's treatment was appropriately planned and recorded.

Suitable arrangements were in place to provide emergency first aid and resuscitation if needed. Procedures were also in place to ensure that equipment was appropriately decontaminated and sterilised. Staff were able to describe these arrangements clearly and had been appropriately trained in the prevention of infection and first aid. Comments made to us by people who used the service included 'always clean' and 'they wash hands before they deal with you, wear the gloves and everything else'.

Information on making complaints was available to people who used the service. People said they would feel able to raise any concerns with staff, with comments including 'no complaints at all' and 'very approachable'. Records showed that any complaints had been responded to appropriately.
