Our view of the service

Kingswood Manor provides accommodation for up to 44 people who need help with nursing or personal care. At the time of the inspection 24 people lived in the home. This inspection was to follow up concerns found at the last inspection in November 2023. Some improvements had been made. Staff recruitment processes were updated. Staff training and supervision was up to date which meant staff received the support they needed. Care plans now contained person centred information on people’s preferences and wishes and people’s consent was obtained in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act. People had access to a range of social and recreational activities which they told us they really enjoyed. People said staff were kind, caring and knew them well. Medicines were not safely managed. A significant number of people had not received the medicines they needed. Records were not accurate or properly maintained. Care plans did not always provide staff with a clear, accurate and holistic view of people’s needs, risks and care. Wound records were not maintained appropriately to enable staff to track the progress of people’s wounds. People’s communication needs were not adequately supported. Fire safety improvements had not been acted upon in a timely or robust manner and were found again at this inspection. Environmental concerns had not been addressed since the last inspection. The environment was not dementia friendly. This service is remains in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provides a framework within which we use our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.

People's experience of this service

At the time of our inspection, 24 people lived in the home. During our visit we spoke with 4 people living in the home and 3 relatives and asked their views on the quality and safety of the service provided. People told us they felt safe in the home. They said staff were kind and respected their wishes and preferences. People told us care staff supported them with their day to day needs and did a good job. Social and recreational activities were on offer and people told us they really enjoyed these activities and the company of activities staff. Two people said at times, the service could do with more staff, especially at night, but overall most were happy with staffing levels. They said staff came quickly when they rang their call bell and rang the doctor for them if they became unwell. Relatives told us that they felt welcome in the home and people were well looked after. No-one we spoke with had any concerns about the service and said if they did have, they would feel comfortable raising any concerns with staff or the manager.
