All inspections: G K Ooi & Associates - Kennington Road

We had previously undertaken a comprehensive inspection on 17 May 2024. We found the registered provider was not providing safe, effective and well-led care and was in breach of regulations 12, (Safe care and treatment), 17 (Good governance) and 18 (Staffing) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

We undertook an on-site assessment to follow up on these concerns on Friday 8 November 2024. We found the practice had met all regulations.

The practice had systems to manage risks, including maintaining equipment in line with guidance.

Infection control procedures followed published guidance.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and dentists documented treatment in line with guidance.

There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Processes were in place to monitor staff training and development.

G K Ooi & Associates – Kennington Road is in Kennington and provides predominantly NHS dental care and treatment for adults and children.

The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse, the receptionist and the practice manager.

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 17 May 2024.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect.

At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required.

Maintenance of premises and equipment was not undertaken at recommended intervals.

There was a lack of effective leadership, and not all risks associated with undertaking of regulated activities had been suitably identified and mitigated.

Infection control procedures did not entirely follow published guidance.

Staff training was not up-to-date and reviewed at the required intervals.

G K Ooi & Associates – Kennington Road is in the London Borough of Lambeth and provides predominantly NHS dental care and treatment for adults and children.

At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 2 associate dentists, 2 dental nurses, 2 trainee dental nurses, and 1 receptionist who was also a qualified dental nurse. The practice manager and provider is a dentist who does not work clinically at this location The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 associate dentist, 2 dental nurses, the receptionist and the practice manager.

The provider was not complying with all regulations. Full details of the regulations the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

We did not speak to any people using the service during the inspection; however we did review feedback that had been left by people on the NHS Choices website. Some of the comments that we read included "I was informed of the cost before he proceeded so I could say yes or no" and "kept me informed".

People had their medical history checked at first visit and at each subsequent appointment. One dentist told us "I verbally check their medical history with them".

We looked at two staff records during our inspection; we saw that staff had received relevant training.
