Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 6 March 2025. We found the practice had met all regulations. Improvements to the recruitment procedures were underway to ensure they reflected current legislation. There was effective leadership with an emphasis on improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. The practice is in Eastergate, Chichester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step-free access to the practice and spacious car parking onsite. The practice had 3 treatment rooms, only 2 were in use at the time of the assessment. At the time of our assessment, there was a total of 8 staff, of which there were 2 dentists, 1 trainee dental nurse, 2 dental hygienists and 2 receptionists. There was also 1 locum qualified dental nurse. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our assessment, including 1 dentist, 1 trainee dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist and 1 receptionist.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our on-site assessment, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. On the day of our assessment, we spoke with and saw patient feedback from a further 16 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Feedback from patient questionnaires demonstrated that people were positive about the standards of cleanliness. Furthermore, patients responded positively that they were able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs, they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs.
Findings also told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
