Wallfield is a care home providing personal care for up to 14 people with a learning disability and/or autistic people. There were 13 people living at the service during this assessment. The assessment was carried out between 15 October and 24 October 2024. This was a comprehensive assessment, and we included all quality statements under each of our five key questions. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found 2 breaches of regulation in relation to good governance and safe care and treatment. We identified fire safety shortfalls had not been rectified by the provider. This placed people at increased risk of avoidable harm in the event of a fire. Additionally, the provider’s governance framework has not always been used effectively to identify shortfalls, including in relation to fire safety, submission of notifications to CQC and medicines recording errors. The registered manager responded to shortfalls identified during this assessment by introducing a new system to ensure compliance and arranging for the identified works to be completed. We asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment. People had care plans and risk assessments in place and care provision was person centred. Staff supported people to have maximum choice and control of their lives and access support that met their needs. Staff understood people’s rights and how these should be met. Staff felt supported and had the necessary skills to do their job. People’s views and preferences were communicated and acted upon.
