During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 12 March 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations. Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

The practice is in Mossley, Greater Manchester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice, via a portable ramp and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 4 treatment rooms. The total number of staff was 18. During the assessment we spoke with 4 dentists, 4 dental nurses, 1 receptionist and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our assessment.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service. They told us they had been happy with the service they had received. One person said, 'I wouldn't come if I wasn't happy. I feel very, very confident in the skills of the staff.' Another person told us, 'It is fantastic here. I have come here for years and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.'

People told us that their treatment options had been clearly explained to them. One person said, 'They (staff) are very caring, understanding and thoughtful. They know everything about me and my family's dental needs.'

Those people spoken with told us they were very happy with the levels of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the practice. One person told us, 'Yes, everything is always spotless and hygienic. You are asked to wear protective things like goggles and a bib. The staff are always protected as well. That gives you confidence in the standard of cleanliness in the practice.'

We found that Mossley Dental Care provided people with lots of appropriate information about the practice and lots of support during their treatment. Treatment was provided in a way that maintained people's privacy and dignity at all times.

During our conversations with the staff we found that some important pre-employment checks had not been carried out. This was due to different information being shared with the provider and you can read about this in the relevant outcome section of this report.
