Manston Surgery is a partnership providing services to a patient list of 8,222 patients and holds a Primary Medical Services (PMS) contract. The practice is situated within the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and is part of a wider network of GP practices, known as Crossgates Primary Care Network. The practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to deliver the Regulated Activities: diagnostic and screening procedures, maternity and midwifery services, treatment of disease, disorder or injury, surgical procedures and family planning. The practice team consists of 2 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, and a GP Retainer. There are 3 practice nurses, 2 healthcare assistants (HCAs) and 2 dispensers (1 of whom is a trainee). They are supported by an assistant practice manager, and a team of reception and administrative staff. Support is provided by the PCN in the form of a pharmacist, pharmacy technician, physician associate, advanced nurse practitioner (ANP), nurse associate and a physiotherapist. Information published by Public Health England shows that deprivation within the practice population group is ranked 5th (1-10, where 1 is most deprived). According to the latest available data, the ethnic make-up of the practice area is 90% White, 4% Asian, 3% Mixed, 2% Black and 1% other. We carried out an announced assessment of Manston Surgery on 20 November and 11 December 2024 to follow-up on an inspection that was carried out in January 2024, were the practice was rated inadequate and placed into special measures. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. The provider demonstrated improvements had been made and therefore, this service is no longer in special measures. We have identified a breach of Regulation 17(1) (Good governance) and have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 5 September 2024

As part of this assessment, we reviewed patient feedback from the NHS Friends and Family Test (FFT) and the National GP Patient Survey (2024). We also asked the practice to invite patients to share their experience of the service they received via the Give Feedback on Care form on the Care Quality Commission’s website. However, we did not receive any responses. The NHS FFT data collected by the practice for the period October 2023 to September 2024 showed there had been 447 responses. Of the responses we saw that 65% of patients found the practice very good or good and 15% found the practice poor or very poor. The remainder of patients, 20%, responded that the practice was neither good nor poor or they did not know. Patient feedback from the National GP Patient Survey showed that outcomes in relation to the quality statements equity in access, kindness, compassion and dignity and treating people as individuals were in line with the national averages. At the time of the assessment there was no Patient Participation Group (PPG). The PPG was being run at a Primary Care Network level. However, the Primary Care Network had shared the information of those registered at Manston Surgery who might be interested in joining a practice PPG in the future.
