During a routine inspection

People we spoke with told us they liked the service they received. One person told us 'staff are competent and provide good care for my child.' Another said 'my child enjoys going out with the worker. They really take care of them.'

The manager told us that information and consent forms are completed at the initial assessment meeting. All the files we looked at contained signed completed consent forms and some contained medical administration consent forms.

The service had an information sharing policy in place. The manager told us they would discuss this policy with parents at the initial assessment meetings. Parents we spoke with confirmed this.

We looked at the recruitment records of staff. We found that checks such as references and checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) were carried out in each case, prior to staff being employed.

We saw that care records were accurate and up to date and were held securely in electronic files on the computer.

During a routine inspection

The organisation provides a sitting service for children and young people up to the age of 19 years old who have a learning or physical disability. Staff were required to give personal care on occasions.

The manager told us that the families they work with are referred to them by social services and are allocated a certain amount of hours every year. One relative confirmed that they were clear about the different ways they could use the hours.

Assessments were carried out by the manager and these were attended by the children, carers and social workers. We saw notes from these assessment meetings in files.

One relative told us they were very happy with the support provided. They said it was flexible and the workers knew their child's needs. Another relative told us the workers allocated were consistent; they have had the same worker for the past four years which they believe is important with a service like this.

The managers told us they were qualified trainers and delivered safeguarding training every year which is attended by all staff. We saw staff training records to confirm this.

Staff told us that they felt valued in their work and one staff member said "I feel well supported in my job".

The manager told us that monthly monitoring forms were sent to parents. We saw copies of these forms. One relative told us they received the forms but have never completed them. They said if they had anything to feedback they would talk to their link worker.
