During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 13 February 2025. We found the practice had met all regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. North Hill Surgery Limited is in Colchester, Essex and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 3 dental nurses, the dental hygienist and the practice manager.

During a routine inspection

Following our inspection of the service we spoke with four people by telephone who had received treatment at the practice on the day of our visit. They were all complimentary about the service and treatment they had received at North Hill Dental Practice and said that they would recommend the practice to family and friends. Comments included: "They are extremely competent, they put me at ease which I have not found elsewhere' and 'Everybody is very professional and friendly, they have a very nice manner. I am completely happy with the service.' Another person said: 'I would give it 10 out of 10.'

Everyone told us that they understood the care and treatment choices available to them and were aware of their treatment plan and associated costs. They all felt very involved in their treatment. One person said: "I am always told what is happening and what needs to be done.'

We found that the surgery was clean and tidy and that staff understood the cleaning procedures to be followed. One person told us: 'The place is spotless.' Another person said: 'It is immaculate.'

We saw that there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of cross infection.

The staff were appropriately trained and supported. The provider had systems in place to ensure the quality and safety of the service provided but these needed to be developed further.
