Our current view of the service

Updated 2 January 2025

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 05 February 2025. We found the practice had met regulations. Infection control processes were embedded. We saw evidence that lessons were shared, and action was taken to improve safety in the practice. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment. Patients ’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. The practice had systems to manage risks. Feedback from patient surveys showed that patients were satisfied with the standard of care they received from the clinical team. One of the dentists provided surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of regulation and are not covered in our assessment. Smile NW London is in Finchley in the London Borough of Barnet and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step-free access to the practice and on-street parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The dental team includes the principal dentist, 3 associate dentists, 2 orthodontists, 1 oral surgeon, 3 dental hygienists, 3 qualified dental nurses and 1 reception staff. They were supported by a visiting compliance personnel and a practice support staff. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 1 practice support staff, 1 compliance staff, 1 dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist and 1 receptionist.

People's experience of the service

Updated 2 January 2025

Two weeks before our on-site assessment, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 7 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness- “competent professional care in very hygienic surroundings.” They told us they were able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and that they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. Patients said they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. When they were prescribed medicines, patients felt that sufficient information was given. Patients also felt they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources. The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
