Independence, choice and control
Staff knew people well and demonstrated how they promoted people’s choice and independence. One staff member said, “I try to get them to do as much as possible for themselves.” Staff told us how they fostered warm and trusting relationships with people and their relatives.
We observed kind and trusting interactions between staff and people. People were supported to maintain their independence. For example, we observed 1 staff member patiently encouraging 1 person to mobilise independently, whilst providing gentle reassurance. People were supported to maintain relationships with family and friends and care records showed people and relatives involvement in some choices and decisions about care, where this was appropriate.
People's Experiences
People told us they had choice and control over their care and support. They told us staff were kind and compassionate and promoted their independence. One person said, “Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they help me to get up and bathed. Some things I can manage, they do the bits I cannot do.”
