Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

All feedback from people and their families stated that staff treated them with kindness, dignity and respect. Staff were able to explain how they would ensure they protected people’s dignity when supporting people with personal care.

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Care packages where tailored to meet people’s individual needs and care records reviewed, reflected that the service treated people as individuals. People told us that staff had time to spend with them, they did not feel rushed and they would recommend the service to others.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

Staff told us they supported people to remain independent by supporting and encouraging them to do tasks for themselves where they were able. People told us that they were supported to remain independent.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

People and their families told us that the provider listened when their care needs changed and would make amendments to the care plans to make sure people’s needs were met. For example, a relative told us that they asked if their loved one’s care could be earlier on a certain day of the week to ensure the person was ready for day care services. Staff were able to work flexibly to make this happen.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

Staff told us that the provider was a good company to work for, that they were listened to and were supported to do their roles. We were told that the provider and management team supported staff with reasonable adjustments if and when needed.

Several staff that we spoke with said that they had been supported with training whilst working for the service, that had led to them being able to take on other roles and responsibilities.
