Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 13 March 2025

Date of assessment: 20 March to 31 March 2025. Aspen Court Care Home is a care home providing regulated activity to adults, people living with dementia and people who have physical disabilities. The service can support up to 40 people, at the time of our assessment 27 people were using the service. This assessment was carried out following information of concern we had received about the quality of the care in the service. The service did not have a registered manager in post at the time of our assessment. However, the provider had deployed their ‘turnaround manager’ into their service whilst they recruited into this position. We found staff provided safe care to meet people’s needs, people’s care plans were regularly reviewed and updated when required. We reviewed the health and safety within the service and found this was regularly checked and compliance certificates were in place and up to date. We found medicines were managed safely and the provider ensured there were enough staff available to meet people’s needs. The provider worked well with external professionals to support people and relatives told us they were kept up to date with any changes in their family member’s care. The provider and manager both had a good oversight of the service through the structured schedule of audits in place which included medicines, health and safety and people's care plans. In addition to this, the provider’s quality team also carried out regular audits of the service. We found that the findings of audits were shared with the wider staff team to drive improvements.

People's experience of the service

Updated 13 March 2025

We received mixed opinion from people and their relatives about the staffing levels in the service. The majority of people we spoke with told us they did not feel there was enough staff available in the communal areas of the home. Relatives told us they felt staff were busy, but this did not impact on the care they delivered. The provider told us they were aware of this and in response to these concerns they had recently increased the number of staff deployed on shift. People told us they looked forward to the entertainment that visit the home and how they enjoyed this. Relatives spoke positively about the care staff provided and the management of the service.
