Our current view of the service

Updated 13 January 2025

We carried out this assessment on 6 February 2025. The practice had not met all regulations. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance, although protocols to support safe care and treatment were not always followed. Infection control procedures were in place; the practice was visibly clean. Management of cleaning tools and workwear was not in line with recognised guidance. The practice had systems to manage risks; these were not always followed. Processes for the management of staff recruitment reflected current legislation, but were not routinely followed. The practice was unable to evidence that all required staff training had been completed. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and could access treatment when required. Medicines and prescriptions were not managed in line with current guidance. Evidence of patients’ consent to care and treatment was not available for inspection due to disjointed systems around record keeping. Ormond Terrace Dental is part of Gensmile Dental Care Limited. This practice in Cheltenham, provides private dental care and treatment. The practice is not fully accessible. For those with limited mobility the practice can refer patients to a sister practice nearby which is fully accessible. The practice has 4 treatment rooms. The dental team consists of 3 dentists, 1 hygienist, 1 oral surgeon, 1 endodontist, 1 qualified dental nurse, 3 trainee dental nurses, 1 receptionist, 1 treatment coordinator and a practice manager. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses, a receptionist and the compliance lead for Gensmile Dental Care Limited. Feedback forms were shared with the team ahead of the assessment. We received 3 responses, which were considered in our assessment. The provider was not complying with Regulation 17, good governance and details of this breach are within this report. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 13 January 2025

Before our inspection we reviewed a number of sources of patient feedback. For example, feedback direct to the practice and online feedback. Overall, feedback was highly positive and gave favourable reviews of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients commented that they were provided with appropriate information and resources to support their oral health.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.

While the feedback expressed that patients were generally happy with their care, our assessment found there were regulations that were not met.
