Our view of the service

We carried out this announced, on-site assessment on 13 February 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had systems to manage risks.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

James Pegg Dentistry is in York and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 2 treatment rooms. At the time of our assessment, the practice had a total of 7 staff.

During the assessment, we spoke with 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist and 2 receptionists.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our on-site assessment, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 13 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included, “The service provided is outstanding. All members of staff go above and beyond what is necessary. They take the time to get to know you as a family which I think really helps with the care they provide.” “I feel very relaxed going and confident that I am receiving the highest level of care. A member of staff always calls after any treatment so follow up care is also excellent. I would highly recommend James Pegg Dentistry.” “The surgery is efficient and very well managed.” “All the staff are wonderful”, “Expertise and experience are phenomenal”, “The standard of care I have received at this dental practice is second to none and I've attended some very well-resourced practices in the past.” “Treatments are quoted for in advance so that the patient knows exactly what's involved plus everything is explained beforehand. I like the way that I as a patient have all my questions answered, am kept fully informed about what dental work is required and what the treatment options are.”

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.

They told us they were able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and that they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients said they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

When they were prescribed medicines, patients felt that sufficient information was given.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
