Our view of the service

North Downs Villa is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 10 people with mental health needs. We conducted this unannounced on-site assessment of the service on 30 May 2024. The team who conducted the inspection consisted of 2 inspectors. We looked at all 5 key questions and the associated quality statements during this assessment. We found the provider had met the breaches from the previous inspection including safeguarding people, staffing, managing risk, person centred care and dignity and respect. However, we found a new breach in relation to risk and a continued breach of good governance. The negative comments above notwithstanding, we found the registered manager was aware of the areas that needed to improve and had begun taking action to address those issues. Staff and managers understood their duty to safeguard people from abuse and protect them from harm. There were enough staff on duty to support people and meet their needs. Staff supported people to participate in meaningful activities and treated people with respect, dignity and compassion. Staff supported people to be as independent as possible. The provider worked in partnership with external health and social care professionals and bodies to support people in moving to new services.
