Well-led
People received care and support from a service which was well managed. There were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service provided which were completed by the management team and the provider. They were all aware of the areas of improvement required, had a plan in place and actions were being taken. Some improvements were needed to the oversight of safe recruitment and staffing dependency levels.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Governance, management and sustainability
The registered manager was keen and passionate to continue to develop the service. They recognised there were still areas which required improvement, and they had an action plan in place on how they were addressing or planning to address these. The registered manager told us about some of the achievements they were proud of, such as reducing the number of agency staff they had used by recruiting permanent staff. They also spoke very positively about the housekeeping team and the support they had from the head of housekeeping in making upgrades to the environment. They also talked to us about the improvement they were making to the activities programme. One of the deputy managers told us they felt the service was in a good place now and continued to move in the right direction and develop “How it should”.
The provider was focused on improving the service’s performance. They discussed the service’s status regarding the support they were giving, this being a high priority amongst their services. Systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service. Quality audits were being carried out by the management team and the provider was also carrying out quality monitoring processes. An extensive service action plan was in place which incorporated actions identified through these systems. In some areas, these required further improvement, such as recruitment and staffing dependency levels. For example, through the provider monitoring systems it was identified that there were not enough staff on the nursing unit. Other monitoring systems identified that falls risk assessments and dependency tools were not always updated and that people were experiencing falls at specific times of the day which were busier for staff. However, it was not clear to us action was taken by the provider to identify if there were enough staff to support people’s needs, particularly on the nursing unit. The registered manager and provider were quick to act on our feedback and implemented changes during the assessment. The registered manager had a clear oversight of the improvements required and was working closely with the recently appointed clinical lead and other members of the management team to implement these.
