Caring
People were supported by staff who were kind and caring. Staff supported people to maintain their independence. People were supported to maintain relationships and visitors were welcomed to the home.

Independence, choice and control
People were supported to maintain relationships which were important to them. People told us they took part in daily activities such as going out. Relatives stated their loved ones were supported to make choices and maintain independence. A professional stated. “My observations of clients support by staff is they are extremely patient and kind in their care”.
Staff supported people to have choice and control over their lives. One staff said, “People can do what they want and when they want. One person likes to have a lie in and doesn’t get up till lunch time and that’s ok.” The cook told us, “People can choose whatever they want to eat. We have a menu but all they have to do is ask if they want something else.” Staff stated one person liked to communicate using Makaton and they supported them to do so. Staff told us about a success story of a person who used the service for 27 years and with support from staff managed to reach a level of independence allowing them to move out and live more independently.
People were supported to have choice and control over their own care and to make decisions about their care, treatment and wellbeing. People could get up, go to sleep and have meals whenever they wanted. Staff supported people to do activities of their choice. For example, when a person requested for a member of staff to support them with going to a local shop they did so promptly. People’s bedrooms were decorated in lie with their preferences. One person said, “Pink is my favourite colour and staff made it all in pink for me”.
Provider purchased two cars and a minibus to help and encourage people to access the local community. People’s preferences and activities of their choice were clearly record in their care plans. People’s families could visit whenever they wanted to, and staff made them feel welcomed.
